The first Ingenieur was launched in 1955 as IWC's first automatic watch with a soft iron inner case to protect against magnetic fields. It was designed for professionals such as engineers and scientists who worked in environments with strong magnetic interference. In 1976, Grald Genta redesigned the watch to create the Ingenieur SL (reference 1832). This version
